Delete your account
How to do it, and exactly what goes.
In the app
This is the quickest way, and it takes effect immediately — you do not have to wait for us, or ask anyone.
- Open MingTag and go to Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.
- Read what will be removed, turn on I understand this cannot be undone, and tap Delete my account.
That is the whole thing. You do not have to give a reason, and there is no waiting period.
By email
If you cannot reach the app — a lost phone, an uninstall — email privacy@mingtag.com from the address on your account. If you signed in as a guest and have no address on file, tell us the nickname you used and the café you used it in, and we will find the account.
We action these within 30 days and confirm by email when it is done.
A guest account lives on one device only. Uninstalling the app without deleting the account leaves the record behind — so if you want it gone, delete it first, or send the email.
What is deleted
Immediately, and with no way for us to restore it:
- Your profile — nickname, avatar, photos, bio and interests.
- The identifier for the Google or Apple account you signed in with, and your email address.
- Your conversations, and every message in them. A conversation is one shared thing rather than two copies, so deleting your account removes it for the other person as well — they are not left with a thread they cannot open.
- Photos, voice notes and files you sent, deleted from our storage rather than only unlinked.
- Your connection requests, sent and received.
- Your table, which frees up for somebody else.
- Push notification tokens for your devices.
What is kept, and why
Two things outlive the account, and both are deliberate:
- Reports, kept with the café. A report about you stays, so that deleting an account is not a way to erase a safety record and start again; a report you filed about somebody else stays too, because it is about them. Both keep what was written and lose the link to the account that no longer exists.
- Records we are required by law to retain, kept only for as long as that requirement lasts.
